Freight yards for Photography

John Lovda

I just came back from a Swiss rail photo trip two weeks ago.  Bellinzona, Biasca, Olten and Arth-Goldau are also great places to watch freight trains go through and sometimes stop.  There are a lot of locomotives parked at Bellinzona because of the main workshop located there.  Biasca seems to be a mothball parking area for Ae 6/6's.  There must have been 10-15 of them in a row although some are partially blocked from view because of other rolling stock sitting on the tracks in front of them.  Finally, take the bus from either Erstfeld or Goshenen to Wassen and walk up to the front door of the famous church.  About every 10-15 minutes a freight or passenger train will pass over the arched bridge in front of you.
