No, it is normal to put the driving trailer to the downhill side, see as an example the Visp - Zermatt consists.

However, with only one driving trailer it doesn't matter. On the Yverdon - Ste-Croix each drinig trailer is individually positioned:

51 (and former 52) uphill
53 downhill
54 (for old Be 4/4) uphill
55 downhill

Because we know it was 53, we know it was downhill
