"Offizielles Kursbuch" Available in US or Canada?

jtatum43

Does anyone know of a source in the US/Canada where one may purchase the
current "Kursbuch"?
I called the Swiss Travel Office U.S. toll-free line and was assured
that I could it from them using the "myswitzerland.com" website or,
alternatively, from Rail Europe. I was unable to find anything on the
website about ordering the "Kursbuch" and Rail Europe tells me they
don't sell it.

It can be ordered from the SBB in St. Gallen, however there is no way to
order it over a secure link.
Seems that one must establish an online account first, and that option
isn't available for the US.
A gentleman with SBB St. Gallen suggested ordering it from them by
splitting my credit card number on two separate emails, but I'm not too
comfortable with that option. Ordering it thru the mail from St. Gallen
would involve a $20 bank fee for an international draft.

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated. Many thanks in advance!

Is there any more on Rail 2030 in English anywhere?

Wednesday or Thursday, they say, mostly...

1) Train arrives at Wï¿œdenswil with 20 wagons about 10 o'clock
2) Locomotives continue with 5 wagons, return empty
3) Locomotives take 5 wagons up, bring 5 empties down
4) Locomotives take 5 wagons up, bring 5 empties down
5) Locomotives take 5 wagons up, bring 10 empties down
6) Empty train returns to Rafzerfeld

About 1 hour one turn, interrupted for supper

Somebody saw two Re 6/6 on this train once. But they can't take more than 5 wagons because of track length in Schindellegi-Feusisberg station.

The following is based on my ‘detailed’ one week stay on the line in 2008. That sounds a while ago I admit, but as of today there have been no major changes to the rolling stock since 2008, therefore AFAIK the diagramming hasn’t changed very much. Having said that my visit was in April before the ‘Chocolat’ starts running.

I agree with Marcus, the most obvious is the Panoramics with VIP seats (ex ‘Crystal Panoramic’) are an 8000 lok (in the middle of the set). The other trains are shared between the 8000 and 6000 loks and the 4000 ABDe8/8s as below:
nb M - Z = Montreux to Zweisimmen (eastbound), Z - M = westbound

Goldenpass Panoramic and Golden Pass Classic
Usually ‘express’ and Bold type in timetable (except trains 2116, 2229, 2234)
6000 or 8000 loco hauled. Classic is almost always 6000 hauled
Train numbers M – Z: 2112, 2216, 2124, 3126, 2128, 2234
Z – M: 2111, 3115, 2119, 2127, 2229, 2131

‘all stations’ services
light type in timetable
Usually 6000 or ABde8/8 4000
Train numbers:
M – Z: 2208, 2210, 2222, 2224, 2228, 2232, 2238, 2240, 2244
Z – M: 2203, 2205, 2207, 2209, 2213, 2217, 2221, 2225, 2233, 2235, 2237

‘VIP’ set: M – Z trains 3118, 2134; Z – M 3123
Loco: 8000

Examples from my 2008 trip:
2119 – ‘GFM’ 6000
2217 –  4000 one day, GFM 6000 another
2222 – ‘GFM‘ 6000
2224 – 4000
2225 – 4000
2232 – ‘GFM’ 6000
3118 – 6000
2124 – 4000

Excellent photo!
I have to say this location is one of my favourites in the whole of Switzerland. It is one of the few places in the country where the transition from 'hills' to 'valley' is a steep gradient and tight curve, but in open countryside rather than being surrounded by cliffs or trees.

BTW just above this point my downhill train once made an emergency stop as some level crossing barriers had not lowered. It really tested the brakes!

Daily dispatching is far more important than any plan with 16 pieces of motive power, divided into 3 types and 4 subtypes, for trains over the whole line.

However, it is save to assume that Golden Pass Panoramics with VIP-places are tracted by a Ge 4/4 8000. And the Chocolate trains, which now also work in push-pull, are tracted with a GDe 4/4 6000 but not one ex-TPF.

On all other trains with Pnaoramic or "Classic" coaches, it is normal to find a Ge 4/4 8000 or a GDe 4/4 6000, depending on availability.

"No name" through trains in the timetable (covering the whole line from Montreux to Zweisimmen or v/v) mostly contain EW1/EW2 coaches and are pulled by either a Ge 4/4 8000 or a GDe 4/4 6000 or an ABDe 8/8 4000, again depending on availability.

There are exceptions early in the morning, late in the evening and on days with very few travellers (March, November) where a Be 4/4 5000 with two driving trailers can be used.

Trains from Montreux not going beyond Les Avants are mostly Be 2/6 7000 and trains from Zweisimmen not going beyond Chï¿œteau-d'Oex/Lenk are mostly (= most days of the year) Be 4/4 5000.

Age. After two lives of about 50 years each, you can't speak of an early demise...

As 1171" ex B 2234 ex BB B4 152, 1910/63

Its mate B 2233 was scrapped in September 2009.

The interior of As 1171 was a collection of special pieces of furniture, but not an "ensemble". They had first been used in As 1171' (ex and now again AB 1546) from 1998 - 2002.

Martin, I have never seen diagrams at all for MOB. However the staff at
Gstaad have always passed on the gen to me with no problems. Obviously the
Golden pass are hauled as are the Chocolate services. However by what
haulage I am unsure. I have even tried to get information by emailing MOB
direct but all they have replied to me is take a look at their website.

[Full quote with lots of empty lines has been deleted]

I'm not convinced that they have regular diagrams as such. From my observations from a number of visits over the last year, there are usually 3 (occasionally 4) of the Ge4/4s out each day. These are almost always on the Golden Pass Panoramic services and the GP (avec place VIP) is garunteed a Ge4/4. The others sets all change loco and lay over 1 turn at each end whereas the VIP set the loco is in the middle of the train and sticks on the same rake all day.
The Golden Pass Classic is almost always a GDe 4/4, whilst the stopping services are usually either GDe 4/4 or ABDe8/8, there doesn;t appear to be a pattern as to which ones are hauled and which ones are units. Usually if hauled, the locos lay over a turn at either end (or until the next loco hauled service if the following one is a unit). I usually start at one end, see what I pass then work out what I expect the locos to come back on. I have heard that the gen is available from the shunters cabin at Montreux but have never tried to ask for it.

I've just got back from Switzerland today and sampled 3502 on the Regional express Landquart - Davos Platz and the corresponding Regio local to Filisur on March 16th. I understand that the engineers are still testing the unit in traffic as I noticed an Rhb staff with a laptop in the second class partr of the driving car.

The following diagram for 3502 is:

0802 Davos Platz - Landquart
0947 Landquart - Davos Platz
1131 Davos Platz - Filisur
1204 Filisur - Davos Platz
1302 Davos Platz - Landquart
1447 Landquart - Davos Platz
1631 Davos Platz - Filisur
1704 Filisur - Davos Platz
1802 Davos Platz - Landquart
2047 Landquart - Davos Platz

Though this may change.

Got several photos of the Re 4/4's in the snow, some very heavy blizzard conditions on March 16th during my stay in Chur.
