Thanks Martin but can you clarify "Südeinfahrt"

I was reading this before I posted but it does not give enough detail for my purposes.

A decent track plan before and after might help.

I am also aware that there are plans for opening up the Limmatt Corridor but was unclear if this was to be tram, heavy or light rail.

Cheers

Durchmesserlinie can only be finished after the removal of tracks 5154.

Other parts of the article suggest that long distance trains from the
Oerlikon direction that currently reverse in Zurich HBf (and vv) will
be diverted to Lowenstrasse so I assume that the platforms freed up
will still give any extra capacity needed for future traffic growth
and the Sihlquai platforms will be built on so any opportunity to use
these platforms for main line services will be lost.
What do you mean by Lwenstrasse and Sihlquai???

To put it simple:
SZU underground station are tracks 12
SBB old Zrich HB are tracks 318
New Durchmesserlinie underground station will be tracks 3134
Underground station alongside Museumstrasse, originally tracks 2124, are now tracks 4144

Long distance trains (300400m) can use tracks 318 and 3134. It is planned that trains from Bern to St. Gallen will use tracks 3134. But this will only be possible after the opening of the Altstetten entry by the end of 2015.

Platforms 51-54 will be closed on 14.06.2014. Long distance trains from the west that continue to Flughafen-Winterthur etc will use the Durchmesserlinie from December 2015. It will take this long to complete the viaduct which will carry (only) westbound trains from the Durchmesserlinie. Eastbound trains will use the Südeinfahrt and then join the DML

Thank you Martin and Markus,

I was staying locally and walked along the side of the works so know the road you are referring to.

Re: SBB 2014 timetable changes

Platforms 51 to 54 can only be used by trains to or from Enge/Wiedikon, the Thalwil tunnel or the line to Oerlikon via Wipkingen. If you want to do that part of the station loco hauled there are three peak hour Luzern trains with Re 4/4 II in each direction.

I still need to get a handle on low numbered platform arrivals from

Track 5154 are only used for trains coming from/going to Thalwil.

I am not quite sure which bits of the Durchmesselinie will help me or
which bits will open in 2014
Mid-2014 the Wiedikon entry will open, the Altstetten entry will only open by Dec 2015.

that it was the large complex to the West side of the line after
walking up the road towards Altstetten where incidentally most of the

Regarding this court ruling (first I heard of it), does this only apply to Swiss ladies going shopping or can an American with a camera and a Swiss Pass get on and not pay a supplement?

Yes, it does.

And if there are only three GEX each way what use will be made of the
other two sets of coaches (and PROPER restaurant cars)? Expensive
panorama coaches to be used without supplement perhaps?

I think a case of closure by stealth as these trains were very

seeing
any trains on these lines other than freight but perhaps the peaks might be

One hint for the trains passing close to the works would be the departure
tables for Zürich Altstetten, and then you look for trains departing from
track 2. This track is normally not used for the "regular" trains to/from
Hardbrücke.

Altetten-Wiedikon ( was Re: SBB 2014 timetable changes)

Martin Baumann

There are three trains a day in each direction Monday-Friday only

Four of these are Einsideln trains worked by SOB Re 446:

18044 0638 Einsidelen-Zü Altstetten
18045 0821 Zü Altstetten-Einsiedeln
18050 1549 Einsidelen-Zü Altstetten
18051 1720 Zü Altstetten-Einsiedeln

RBe 540, to change to Re 450:

18046 0705 Ziegelbrücke-Zü Altstetten
18053 1751 Zü Altstetten-Ziegelbrücke

Due to engineering work on the SOB their trains are cancelled between Einsiedeln and Wädenswil 22 July to 9 August 2013. It is likely that this will see a unit working in place of the loco hauled train although SOB might deploy a pushpull set if available.

The answer is yes and no. The last timetabled train to run direct from Altstetten to Wiedikon will be 1751 Altstetten-Ziegelbrücke (18053) on June 13th 2014 according to the current draft. However long distance trains using the "Südeinfahrt" line from Altstetten to Zürich HB will still pass close to the works. The majority of arrivals in Zürich HB from Olten etc run on this line. An arrival at the highest numbered group of platforms is more likely to use the older route passing Hardbrücke station. Although signalled for both directions the "Südeinfahrt" is only very rarely used for outbound passenger trains. (Platform numbers in journey planner)

I could see on my last visit that the small works traktors were sometimes visible from these lines but was not in the right places or times to travel on them so I suspect a visit prior to the change is on the cards!
