Securitas train in Bern

George Raymond

Past posts here have described the Securitas “jail rail” train, a
self-propelled railcar and a windowless driving carriage marked Securitas
for the transport of prisoners. Today about 11:15, I saw it pass westbound
under the Bühlstrasse bridge just west of Bern station. The short train
moved on a left-hand turnout from track 1 onto the southernmost track and
was still waiting there 10 minutes later when I had to continue to an
appointment. I can imagine that for security’s sake, each run is planned
individually and confidentially.

George

Are these diagrams still regularly worked by 540s?

Thanks in advance!

add 11197 and 11199 to the list 11197 was done this week

11141 was officially withdrawn 01.10.2007 while still in the Swiss Express colours. It was reinstated 10.08.2009 and left Bellinzona works after an R2 overhaul and repaint in red 18.09.2009

Correct, but kept the "towing hook" <+> on the front.

Following a request for information made on Drehscheibe.de it has been suggested that this loco has been scrapped at Dübendorf. However this is so far unconfirmed

Re: Re 4/4 II with UIC-18 door control

Thanks for the info Martin.

Has 11141 been repainted into Swiss Express livery recently? It was red when I saw it a year ago but with painted numbers.

Re 4/4 II with UIC-18 door control

Martin Baumann

SBB-P have been equipping some of their Re 4/4 II with a cable for coach door control using the UIC-18 system. Those locos done are likely to be retained in the event of a fleet reduction. (This does not include the LION locos all of which will be modified)

Those locos done so far are:
11115
11116
11118
11121
11122
11132
11135
11136
11139
11141
11148
11149
11152
11154
11156 to 11159
11161
11164
11172 (II)
11181
11191 to 11196
11198
All of the above are red except 11141 Swiss Express and 11161 Green. Some of the SBB-P locos not done so far are potentially withdrawal candidates not having had an overhaul in many years:
longest out of works is 11304 (R1 16.04.2008) followed by 11200 (16.06.2009) and 11197 (02.09.2010)

The signals are manually operated from Gschenen to avoid queues of more than 200 m.

The railway will be closed on the dates already cited but the road
will be single file traffic control will be continuous, potentially
slowing down the replacement buses when the railway is closed.
The buses are faster than the railway, especially in AndermattGschenen direction and furthermore I expect the operators in Gschenen to give the buses some priority. In April and October traffic can easily be handled by a bus.

Note also that there will be bicycle carrying service.
Uphill only, cost CHF 5, and is mandatory (road closed for bicycles), each year 20142019 from April through November, all this except six weekends during the Summer when the works will be reduced to allow two lane traffic. Downhill bicycles reach "normal" speeds and are allowed.

It should be added that the road work isn't the only reason for the closure but MGI will also build the combined passenger/ski underpass to reach the new station building and cableway station in Andermatt.
