Old Swiss Rail Pictures

John Lovda

After many years of having my 20 years of Swiss rail photos hide on my computer I have finally started to put them on Flickr. They are going up in random fashion. Look under JLOVDA. If you see any mistakes in my descriptions please let me know. I will continue to add more, a few every day.

New International Locos for BLS

Don Newing

The British rail business magazine Railway Gazette International reports that BLS Cargo has announced an order for Siemens to supply 15 Vectron multi-system electric locomotives on March 27. They are scheduled to be delivered in three batches, with the first to enter traffic in the second half of 2016 and the last in 2018.
The locomotives are to be equipped for operation in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and the Netherlands. BLS plans to deploy them on trans-Alpine freight services between Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Melzo in northern Italy.

BLS Re 420

OL.Guerbetal

On the BLS homepage, Re 420 504 has vanished.

But the locomotive still did RE 4390 Luzern - Bern on 24.3.2015! Strange...

Freight traffic on MOB has been stopped many years ago. The transporter truck loading device (Rollbockanlage) will be removed like the ones in Gossau SG (AB), Wil SG (FW), Suhr (WSB) and Bremgarten West (BD). Bulle (TPF) is to follow soon, when standard gauge down to Broc-fabrique will be installed.

Given the restricted nature of that route and that widening works might have already started, that is quite an achievement but I assume that the S2 does not run too late into the night and returning northbound IC's and Ec's are few enough to squeeze through. B

Newspapers reported today that a total of 117 freight trains had been rerouted via Walchwil in the nights of Wednesday and Thursday.

Now to find somewhere to put it!

The new depot at L'Asse which was intended to be ready to receive this new fleet is not built so the new train has been delivered to the NStCM's 'wooden shack' depot at Les Plantaz!

What is the current capacity of the interchange at Rotkreuz to permit
deviation of traffic to the Arth Goldau via Cham and Zug?
The capacity problem isn't in Rotkreuz. First problem is the limited
capacity of single track Zug - Arth-Goldau line. This capacity is fully
needed in passenger traffic to avoid too much bus replacements with
delays etc.
So, that essentially means that freight will be rerouted via
Lötschberg-Simplon, I guess…

And then, of course, the LBT is partly single-tracked, causing an
additional mess…

Max.

In Rotkreuz trains from Brugg could continue to Zug without problems but would then need to change direction in Baar.

A rerouting via SOB Biberbrugg would meet the same problems of limited capacity of a single track line PLUS a 5% grade, where a Re 6/6 can still take 330t! Would be a spectacle, a 1600t freight train with five Re 6/6 over the hill...

What is the current capacity of the interchange at Rotkreuz to permit deviation of traffic to the Arth Goldau via Cham and Zug? The only other option that I would see would be a complicated rerouting via Zurich-Waedenswil and the SOB Route to Arth Goldau, but even that would require a locomotive change in Arth-Goldau as the SOB route offers no direct access to the southbound Gotthard route.

Serious accident between Arth Goldau and Immensee

Martin Baumann

This morning two Scheuzer engineering trains collided at Brunnmatt resulting in one worker being killed and another seriously injured.

http://www.bote.ch/boulevard/toedlicher-bahnunfall-der-rigi-strecke-gesperrt

There is currently a bus substitution between Arth Goldau and Rotkreuz or Küssnacht am Rigi

Some freight traffic is being diverted via Zug and the S2 is cancelled between Walchwil and Baar Linenpark to provide paths

There is currently no estimate for the line re-opening

They have a depot in Samstagern. Presumably that will continue with its rail activities?
