ZSR offline timetable software 2016
While not covering everything that HAFAS did the ZSR (Slovakia state railway) software linked below works offline and includes a lot of Swiss trains. There is no choice of language but it is easy to understand and use

Re: ETR470.004
csipromo
I had heard that there was some talk that either CD (Czech Republic) might have been interested in acquiring some of the sets, but there were reportedly too many differences between the ETR 470 and the CD Class 680 that would make maintaining the ex-SBB trains too costly. The FS has leased one to replace one of the FS trainsets that was taken out of service. I think that there are once again too many differences between the ETR 470 and the ETR 450 that the FS decided to phase out the ETR 470 altogether, but they will keep them in use for a few years longer than the SBB.

RhB wanderings
Neil Larry
A day around Chur & Landquart produced the following. Disentis - Scoul Tarasp Diag 301 = 616, 302 = 613, 303 = 618, 304 = 611, 308 = 625, 313 = 620, 315 = 612 & 316 = 619. Chur - St. Moritz 151 = 645, 152 = 646, 153 = 648, 154 = 650, 155 = 643 & 156 = 652. A short rake of new St. Moritz stock was being crawled over by fitters at Landquart with 610 on the front. Freights included 703, 704, 705, 706 & 707. Tomorrow will be covering Scoul - Pontresina and Landquart - St. Moritz. Cheers Neil (Bedford GB)

Re: ETR470.004
The December issue of Schweizer Eisenbahn Revue reached me today. It reports that FS Trenitalia are keeping their five ETR470. These will only be used on internal Italian services, probably Rome to Reggio di Calabria

Could anyone tell me why these trains are being withdrawn? These trains, maintained in Italy, never reached a reliability that was satisfying. And with only four trains it was a "Splittergattung" in SBB-eyes, meaning there are too few vehicles to allow for an economic use and maintenance. Also, why would they not attempt to sell them on rather than scrapThis you have to ask SBB. However, the possible buyers are not too many. They don't go under 25 kV 50 Hz and who would invest so much in an already 20 year old trainset? This leaves a use in Italy and obviously FS was not interested or SBB asked for a too high price. At the moment ETR 470.009 is still leased by FS. See also the five Bem 550 Genve - La Plaine which were scrapped a few months after TL had finished the construction of five very similar units based on old plans. SBB wanted too much money to make it interesting for TL to rebuild the five SBB units. Markus, Grbetal

Conversion of Waldenburg railway to metre gauge
George Raymond
The canton of Basel-Land is moving toward a commitment to widen the 13-km
from Liestal to Waldenburg to metre gauge. Abandonment of the Waldenburg railway's exotic 75-cm gauge promises long-term savings on purchases and maintenance by using products already available for the many other metre-gauge lines in Switzerland and elsewhere. Plans also include merging the Waldenburg with Baselland Transport (BLT), which runs Basel’s metre-gauge tram lines 10 and 11 to the suburban towns of Rodersdorf, Aesch and Dornach. A window of opportunity is opening in the early 2020s, when SBB will be rebuilding Liestal station and shifting the Waldenburg’s tracks to accommodate a fourth standard-gauge SBB track. Also, the Waldenburg’s trains from the 1980s are not handicapped-accessible. The Waldenburg’s loading gauge will be widened for rolling stock 2.4 metres wide. Completion is slated for the end of 2022. Converting the Waldenburg’s steam locomotive, Gédéon Thommen, would require an estimated 2 million Swiss francs and private donors. George
