Martin Baumann

Subject to correction the following are currently passed for the GBT in passenger service

460 008 010 011 016 046 049 077 084 094 098 100 108 118

500 000 to 500 017

all ETR 610 (RABe 503)

Orbe-Charvornay 13

This railcar was withdrawn in 2014 and went to the "museum" at Kerzers-Kallnach. This collection is now in the process of being disbanded and OC 13 has gone to the Buckower Kleinbahn in Germany. They aim to have it operating on July 29th

What does a specific GBT refit entail? I thought that all 460s were being equipped with the new safety systems to include GBT operations and that the fleet were all going through the refit program (new transformers, etc).

How many of the loks with a GBT refit are the ones now running in assorted special liveries associated with the GBT?

trains through the Gotthard Base Tunnel, but haven't seen a
definitive list anywhere of which ones they are. Both 008 and 118
were already on a list I had derived based on prior observations.
SER 5/2015 wrote that it was planned to fit the following locomotives:
- 4 locos being modernized 460 027, 084, 092, 108;
- 9 locos getting a specific GBT refit
460 010, 011, 032, 049, 054, 066, 067, 094, 098;
- eventually all other Re 460 either within modernization program or in a specific GBT refit

I crossed the GBT last year behind (or before) 460 046, 098 (opening ceremony), 098, 098 and 008. Thus the above list was either changed early or amended with 008 and 046.

I was not aware that there were limitations on which Re 460 could be used on the GBT route. I do know that Re 460s are being gradually refitted and upgraded, the oldest locomotives now being 23-24 years old, but I was not aware that any of this was specifically related to GBT.

Rabadan Express

gbgen@...

Sat 25 Feb
Arrived with 421383 on EC192. Then did 450040/058 on IR2681 to Zug (vice 460) for 450096/017 on IR2682 back to Baar for the Ibis. The other 2 Luzern IR turns were 450032/103 and a 460. Viewed 460118 on IC890 and an ETR610 on IC889.

Sun 26 Feb
Did IC861 with 460046 to Bellinzona for units to Luino to pick up the Rabadan Express on which I had pre-booked a one way fare. Train was formed of 50 3673 on top of 10987 (pan up) on ex-FNM stock. Booked departure was 12:05 but we left about 20 late. At Maccagno we crossed the unit heading to Luino but due to problems with the overhead wires both trains were heavily delayed. 50 3673 was then removed and 10987, leaving 70 late, continued alone, arriving in Bellinzona about 40 late, having missed the start of the carnival parade.

A similar trip runs on 26 March, this time to Locarno which I am guessing will be top n' tail due to the reversal at Cadenazzo.

Then covered the diversions via the old Hauenstein line. 3 trains in each direction per hour were being diverted, all worked by 460s. On again this coming weekend.

Re: Re474 - ES64

All of the locomotives belong to the Siemens class ES64F4 (Eurosprinter Model 64 Freight 4 Current). The lok is also known by it's German (DB) designation BR 189 and in Italy as E 189. The ES64F4 exists with a number of options, depending on which countries the locomotive is designed to be used in: Those designations are VA/CD/VE/VF/VI/VJ/VK/VL/VM/VO/VP

The Re 474 was delivered with safety equipment and pantographs for operation in Switzerland and Italy and is designated type VF.

SBB Cargo originally leased a number of ES64F4s. Those locomotives have since been returned to Siemens (Dispolok). The Re 474 was delivered to the SBB, but due to delays and other complications, they did not accept the last batch. Dispolok, which was the leasing arm of Siemens was sold to MRCE, which had taken over Lokpool from Bombardier, making it the largest lease operator in Europe.

More recently, SBB Cargo has leased a number of ES64F4 from MRCE. The difference between those locomotives and the Re 474 is that they are of type VE and are designed and authorized for operation in Holland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy, meaning that SBBCI can use them to operate trains from north to south without having to change locomotives.

This website has good information about the ES64F4 Series:
http://www.railcolor.net/index.php?nav=1404932&lang=1 http://www.railcolor.net/index.php?nav=1404932&lang=1

Specifically, the Re 474: http://www.railcolor.net/index.php?nav=1405009&lang=1#.WLN84kvGQki http://www.railcolor.net/index.php?nav=1405009&lang=1#.WLN84kvGQki
MRCE ES64F4: http://www.railcolor.net/index.php?nav=1405011&lang=1#.WLN8_UvGQkg http://www.railcolor.net/index.php?nav=1405011&lang=1#.WLN8_UvGQkg
See also: http://www.elektrolok.de/statistiken/privatbahnelloks_siemensES64F4.php http://www.elektrolok.de/statistiken/privatbahnelloks_siemensES64F4.php

It is my feeling that the leased ES64F4 will be returned to MRCE once SBBCI takes delivery of it's first Vectron (ES60F4) locomotives, which will reportedly be outfitted for the same countries as the leased ES64s.
SBB announced a lease/rental agreement for 18 of these locomotives in cooperation with Reichmuth/LokRoll AG based on the satisfactory experience obtained with locomotives leased from the Austrian ELL company.

The other advantage of the Vectron locomotives over the ES64F4 and Traxx platforms in use is that the ES60F4 has a top speed of 160km/h (versus 140) and this will be an advantage on routes like the Gotthard and Loetschberg base tunnels.

If we speak of the ES64 F4 (not the ES 64 U2), then there are only two:
1) the colour
2) safety systems (ATW/ATS)

SBBIN locomotives can at least be used in DE, CH, IT, SL, HR, NL
SBBC 474 can be used in CH and IT

You might thus say

DC link voltage for Zwischenkreisspannung
etc etc

The Stadler order for California is now at risk of cancellation. Funding for the electrification has been suspended by the new administration

Tower wagon number 1995 was originally built as a road tower wagon for Industriequartier Strassenbahn. The tower was later transferred onto a rail underframe which according to some sources was from a former horse trailer.

From what I can find there is no equivalent in the UK... as there are no cantons in the UK!

We have a Bundesverwaltungsgericht (in St. Gallen), a federal administrative court, of which the equivalent in the UK is the Administrative Court, itself part of the Queen's Bench Division of the High Court of Justice.

The Verwaltungsgericht Zürich is the cantonal equivalent of the Bundesverwaltungsgericht.

No, not so far. The administrative court only denied the suspensive effect, which means that VBZ and Bombardier can go ahead but that a financial compensation for any irregularity in the procedure is still possible. Stadler and Siemens could appeal to the federal court to reinstate the suspensive effect.
