Vectrons in Switzerland

csipromo

This expands from a previous topic related to the Hupac Vectron locomotives.

The SBB declined to lease the four locomotives (193 490-494) from Hupac, but has since leased 20 locomotives from Suedleasing.
Does anybody have precise information as to why the SBB rejected the Hupac machines? Was it technical, financial or other?
Has this had any downside for relations between SBBC and Hupac?

I was surprised to see that none of the new (Suedleasing) locomotives inherited the name "Rhein" which was originally given to 193 492 when it carried the "Nightpiercer" livery. It may still come back to life in the second batch (526-535).

This is the list of names associated with the Suedleasing locomotives:
516 Aare
517 Adda
518 Ticino “Ceneri 2020”
519 Adige
520 Diveria
521 Donau (Danube)
522 Elbe
523 Lahn
524 Limmat
525 Rotterdam (Hollandpiercer)

405 is confirmed as scrapped. 512 was sold to a so far unknown company in the west of Switzerland

That is ok. I just wont bother next time.
Cheers Keith
Please do bother next time! I found nothing amiss with your post. You warned us it was Google Translate. I took that into account and got the basic information. As always, those who want more can go into the relevant German-language sites and use Google or DeepL to translate as needed.

I must agree with Markus, lovely to have the information, but if you don't
want to check the translation, please put the original up as well, then we
can always do it ourselves.

In a former life, I worked as a Steward for SSG, and I did get a
positive/negative key.

Interestingly the German Wiki article doesn't have an English or a French equivalent. And the picture only has a German caption and even Wikidata doesn't lead anywhere else...
<https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vierkantschl%C3%BCssel>

However, there are two forms of the key, one, as depicted with a positive and a negative version, the other one only with the negative one. Usage in railway is quite wide. All doors, windows, panels, switches etc. need this type of key. Railway standard (Berne convention) is 8 mm (slightly tapered for the key).

However, as the Berne key is so widespread, in some places other keys were introduced, especially access to cabs etc.

It's a bit of a pity to send machine translations without editing and removing the worst faults. Not really useful for non-German speakers.

That looks like the standard one used by a lot of the railways to operate the ‘ready to depart switch’

Also the locomotives of SBB P carry the fife-digit number at the front and the 12-digit EVN only at the side. Each vehicle needs an EVN but it is sufficient to carry it on the side.

223 yes still Zp1, forgot to mention it
226 not seen since 2017
228 still has Zp1 and is quite far back in the row in Montreux station.

According to the MOB website the Steuerwagen with VIP seats are currently not available, probably because they are being converted to Schwab couplings. In any case, there are only two such trainsets (= four Steuerwagen Ast 116/117 and Ast 151/152) available.
