undated but probably 1994 as it describes 465 delivery as imminent (465 001 accepted 04.11.1994)

Lots of shots of trains and locos that are now gone and see if you can spot the Irish container!

DFB (Furka Bergstrecke) have announced they will not run until at least 03.07.2020 (was to be 13.06)

As a result of reduced equipment requirements all Re 4/4 II workings on the Zürich-Brugg-Basel route have been replaced by either 460 pushpull or ICN units

Re: Coronavirus

Starting Thursday passenger timetables will be reduced by almost 50%. Hourly services should be maintained. Night traffic on weekends will be stopped. Shops not serving daily needs will be closed until mid-April. Restaurants are closed as well. Only persons living in Switzerland or coming in a professional purpose will be allowed to pass the border.

It's about the same in all surrounding countries.

From what I have read, none of the border crackdowns have included cargo. I presume that added inspection of some loads may occur as authorities wish to limit the potential of any people entering their territory concealed in cargo shipments.

Freight is not affected from border closures but it is affected from parts of civil life standing still.

LBT has reopened with one track, not sure what it means for freight.

Today more restrictions will be announced and it seems that this will also reduce rail traffic.

Cargo trains question

co90221

Hello,

I wanted to see if anyone knew the current cargo train situation? I saw a lot of pictures posted from the weekend of cargo trains on the old BLS with the basis tunnel being closed. Is it still closed today?

Will cargo trains continue to operate with the recent border closures?

Thank you,

Adam

MGB has odered 12 Orion 3-car-EMU for regional train. I have seen today a design drawing: the driver cab are very similar as Capricorn by RhB.

You can also add TPC/BVB between Villars and Col de Bretaye to the list.

421 392 now also has the Munich advertising livery. Note that the wrong number has been painted on at least one end, it is not 421 388 (which is not passenger equipped)

Schweizer Eisenbahn Revue reports that the EW III sets will be
withdrawn by mid 2021, replaced by new FLIRT units.
This is an estimation that depends on
- delivery of the new FLIRTs for BLS
- introduction of MOB gauge changing trains to Interlaken Ost
- new assignments for NINA and Lötschberger

In some places the change of rolling stock must be at one date because of the train coupling and sharing system appplied in Spiez, Wolhusen, Burgdorf and Kerzers.

It is planned to update RABe 535 software within a few days and after that they will no longer be able to MU with RABe 525 NINA. They will then be moved to Luzern S-Bahn and Bern - Luzern RE. NINAs should remain in S44 and S5 and take over some other tasks around Berne.

After the delivery of the RE-FLIRTs the S-FLIRTs will arrive and replace all NPZ trains (RBDe 565 and 566). Some driving trailers might survive, adapted for the car shuttles with Re 465.

Re 465 are losing its Vst IIId MU ability but get the MU system with Traxx and Vectrons, with refurbished car shuttles and with MOB gauge changing driving trailers. Two locomotives have so far been treated,
465 001 and 004.

It is drastic and I can very well distinguish between "to 10%" and "by 10%". SBB said that patronage within Switzerland has dropped by 10%, to Italy by 90% and to France by 60%. That was yesterday (Tuesday).

Meanwhile some international trains have been cancelled. In Ticino some schools will remain closed from tomorrow Thursday on.

More restrictions might come on.

RhB informs passengers that they might be sent back by the Police in Tirano.
On its website, RhB informs passengers that "tourists must remain at the station of Tirano", not that they might be sent back.
It’s a bit implicit:

Aufgrund einer Verordnung der italienischen Behörden dürfen Freizeitreisende in Tirano derzeit nicht einreisen. Touristen müssen im Bahnhof Tirano verbleiben. Wir empfehlen Freizeitreisenden, bereits in Poschiavo, Le Prese, Brusio oder Campocologno auszusteigen.
..dürfen Freizeitreisende in Tirano derzeit nicht einreisen.. Tourists cannot enter Italy. So yes you can stay at the station, no you cannot enter Italy. In essence, that means you will be send back by authorities.

Greetings,
Martijn
