Re: New group for Swiss modelling interests?

Guerbetaler

Thank you all for the answers and propositions. I can now present a solution: I have erected a subgroup of Swissrail
modelling@SwissRail.groups.io

Members of the existing main group SwissRail will not automatically become members of the subgroup. Only those who apply for membership in the subgroup will get messages and can participate.

Anybody applying for membership in the modelling subgroup will also become member of the main group. Individual settings for main and subgroup are independent. You can chose to get all emails from the subgroup but no email from the main group or v/v.

It is recommended to use hashtags for specific brands, e.g. "#HAG". This will allow to further differentiate the settings.

So, anybody interested in the modelling subgroup, please join. I will ask those who IO don't know to tell me their name and the place where they live. Please answer the mail I will send you.

There are two ways to become member of the subgroup:

Go to <https://swissrail.groups.io/g/modelling>
and click "Apply For Membership In This Group"

or send an email to
<modelling+subscribe@SwissRail.groups.io>

Before 31.05.1981 all Zürich-Bern trains ran on the Olten-Luzern line as far as Aarburg-Oftringen and then to Rothrist (the route still taken by local trains) . The "Bornlinie" reduced the Olten-Rothrist distance by 1048m and made it faster as the new line is partly 140 km/h

AFAIK no trains used the Nationalbahn. I had never been on that line before the opening of the Heitersberg.

In 1981 - before Taktfahrplan - there was a Städteschnellzug roughly every two hours nonstop Bern - Zürich taking 79 min. About 7 train pairs called at Lenzburg, most of them to/from Biel/Bienne (-Lausanne-Genéve)

All other fast trains still went through Baden. That were 34 fast trains on a weekday, leaving from Zürich HB between 0446 and 2320!

Not too impressing. ;-)

I would be interested in joining such a group.

I would be interested in such a group.

I'm not really a hardcore modeler myself. More a collector of rolling stock. I don't have a proper layout to run anything on, and would preferably like to join a club for that.

I have both HO and N gauge stock, but my main scope of interest these last few years is more N gauge.

Any other Swiss N modelers out there?

I also have some Navemo models in HOm gauge and would like to build a portable microlayout for trams.

Zürich - Basel and Zürich Bern before the Heitersberg tunnel

I was recently musing on how the Swiss railway system was before the Heitersberg tunnel was completed.

I guess everything between Zürich and Basel / Bern and further west would have had to come through Wettingen. That is quite difficult to imagine nowadays.

Did many trains use the Nationalbahn, or did they mostly come through Baden?

I sometimes catch the S12 in Wettingen and have observed that one major weakness of the track layout is that trains coming from Baden and going onto tracks 1,2 and 3 need to cross the main line and this sometimes leads to delays.

I wonder if back in the day when there were many more freights needing to be looped, that this would have been a bigger problem.

I was a member of the Swiss Rail Modelling Group a few years back. I think that it would be nice to have a place where we could share our models and learn more about making our models and consists more prototypical.

Given the rise of new brands (LS Models, ACME, Mabar, NME, etc over recent years) and the new focus of Piko/Arwico making Swiss models, encompassing all manufacturers is probably the best way to go.

Especially as somebody outside of Europe, having a resource to discuss how to make my consists as accurate as possible and knowing what goes with what and which models represent which time frame would be a great asset. A lot of my information comes from photos and from videos, but being able to share with others who have similar interests would be a big help.

I look forward to seeing how this develops.

Last message was mid-2018. I set a message yesterday and it came through. I had erected that group but it had too little bandwidth as the HAG and ROCO groups were more in the centre. Thus I didn't move it to groups.io.

There have been propositions to widen BEMO group to any Swiss modelling theme. Another idea was to make a sub-group of SwissRail. However, I'm not sure if this wouldn't destroy the simplicity we now have with the groups. Does anyone have experience with sub-groups on groups.io? I will test it on a little quite inactive group I inherited.

I am interested in all Swiss railway models including HAG. I do not have a preference regarding the name.
Same here , no probs with any name change .

HAG on its own would discourage modellers who glimpse the group's name but model anything but HAG. I would say that a large majority of modellers of Swiss railways (especially outside Switzerland) have very few HAG items but many items from the other manufacturers, as HAG models are comparitively expensive and quite 'specialised'.

Assuming BEMO is excluded from the group, a Swiss railway modelling group would cover HO, O, Om, G, N, Nm, N:150 (Kato RhB Series) which would cover at a guess at least 30 manufacturers' products in addition to HAG.

Re: New group for Swiss modelling interests?

I would also be interested in joining, but I think that naming the group simply HAG would narrow interest down too much. Something like SwissRailModel(l)ing or SwissModelTrains seems a valid alternative.

Count me in too!!! As I have HAG engines, I don't mind if HAG is included in the name!
I'd prefer a meaningful name rather than something clever but obscure.

How about “SwissRailModellers“. I would recommend the British spelling “modellers” over the US “modelers” to be consistent with our use of wagon, railway, transport, sleeper, shunting and driver instead of car, railroad, transportation, tie, switching and engineer (person who drives the train in the US).

With the demise of Yahoo from the groups sector the question was raised if there would be an interest in (re)opening a group for Switzerland-related modelling questions, especially for HAG models. As we have the BEMO group for narrow gauge questions my proposition is to name the group simply HAG, but opening it to the discussion of all Swiss models of any brand. Who would be interested to join such a group and do you have alternative propositions for the group name?

Markus

Perhaps the name could be "HAG, etc." or "HAG and others". Almost all my Swiss models are from ROCO, and the roco-modeltrains Yahoo group is closing according to a note I got from its moderator. If the new group is open to all Swiss rail modeling, I would definitely join. There is a SwissRailModeling Yahoo group. If that group is going away, perhaps that would be a good name.
