BLS 528 units

Martin Baumann

BLS have announced that these units will enter passenger service on Monday 10th May between Bern and Neuchatel.

https://www.bls.ch/de/unternehmen/medien/medienmitteilungen/2021/05-04-einfuehrung-mika (German)

It is not clear from the BLS statement if the units will immediately replace all loco hauled workings or if this will be gradual

No, it hasn't.

The old Lötschberg tunnel was alread rebuilt for many km when the request for additional money was placed. Thus Marti will get a large sum additionally. Marti is also requesting more money for the refurbishment of the Sensetalbahn. But this case is still open.

Still another case is the Weissenstein of BLSN, where Implenia won the contract but Porr went to the court and the judges decided that Implenia had more subcontractors than allowed and passed the contract on to Porr.

A similar thing had happened with an earlier construction lot of the Furka tunnel of MGI.

It's not an easy time for infrastructure managers in these days. Soon they will need more lawyers than engineers! This is not a positive development.

Apologies for the bizarre symbols appeared. It’s corrected below, and the corrupted link replaced. Hope it’s fixed this time.

SER for May 2021 reports that MGB have cancelled the contract for
the tunnel refurbishment as the consortium including Frutiger tried
to raise their price by 50 % from that agreed in November 2019.
Is this something that has happened before with the BLS top tunnel?

Is it definite that Ge 6/6ii 704 will be preserved? If so it might appear on the Davos - Filisur Erlebnis one day I hope.

The company isn't MGB but MGI. MGI is owned by Confederation and cantons and is owner of the whole infrastructure.

MGB is a railway undertaking only owning rolling stock. The shares of MGB are largely in private possession but Confederation and cantons own a minority. Private shareholders are partly organized in BVZ Holding which is also owner of GGB.

BVZ Holding and Confederation/cantons hold 50% each of Matterhorn Gotthard Management AG, which manages all companies mentioned.

Not a simple structure but perfectly working.

RhB 6/6ii passenger diagrams Apr 21

David Prior

File uploaded to RhB folder with the April update.

Essentially the 3 remaining operable loks - 702, 703, 707 - were appearing on freight turns only in the month, and have not been diagrammed for 4109 (early Chur-Samedan), 4709/4718 (Ilanz)or 4367 (evening Klosters) since 703 did the Ilanz runs on 1st April, when it was due to also cover 1358. The only other diagrammed work was a Landquart-St Moritz return, also by 703, on Fri 9th April, and the Landquart-Ilanz Rheinschlucht Erlebnis series (24/25th April and 1st/2nd May).

Given the absence of regular passenger work I will think about how to change the format - clearly little point now in following what were previously the Ge6/6ii duties.

This car is still there as of April 2021. It is part of a bar called "Stazione Paradiso". It used to be visible from trains on the Wipkingen line but is now largely obscured by trees and vegetation. The bar owners have covered the car with an awning which makes it difficult to spot from google earth or similar

A post on BAHNFORUM reports 602 donated its transformer and tap changer to repair 605.

605 was in freight service yesterday

I'm still not sure about the colours, but the roof section seems ill fitted in this photo too:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/maccookie/49278875421/
and is uneven in this one too: https://www.flickr.com/photos/40826712@N00/31143685113/

Is it possible that the roof section would be swapped out with another locomotive during maintenance, leading to the paint lines not matching 100%?
It would seem to me that the paint would be applied while the locomotive was assembled and not painted as parts, but I may be wrong.

That slight colour difference looks like an illusion caused by the angle that section of the loco presents to the light.

The different gray shades of the roof coverings, on the other hand,
may be due to panels having being changed out.

Andrew, Mike,

The cab roof and the roof panel are quite different colours, and there is definitely a difference the hight of the red between the roof panel and each cab, with one cab lining up and the other not.

These two photos were taken a few days after it came out of Works.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/40826712@N00/31143685113/

In the sun, the different shades at one end are quite marked.

Looking at my original photos, I think the issue is that the red hasn’t been painted high enough on one cab. It’s meant to contour over the cab window and then up above the side window and cab door to meet the line running parallel with the grills, but one one end it is straight above the cab window and cab door so doesn’t meet the roof line below the grills.

Looking at a pre-refurb photo, the red was correct above both cabs.

Cheers,
Ewan

In the photo posted here: https://bahnbilder.ch/picture/40363 there is a difference in the red paint of the main body and the lower edge of the roof section
The paint lines up at the far end but seems offset on the left side (closest).
Would this be a replacement roof or was this some kind of paint error?

This railcar faced an uncertain future following the closure of SEFT but it has now been acquired by the museum at Bergün. It will be moved overnight 27/28 April from Grono to Landquart works by road which require the temporary closure of the San Bernadino tunnel to other traffic. After attention at Landquart 491 will be moved by rail to Bergün at the end of May

I really enjoyed the Sargans to Zurich run in the upper deck on a RABe 511 in 2019.
The last time I had done that a segment of that run was in a RBe 540 in 2004.
