Sargans Gleis 1

I recently had a discussion about the absence of a track 1 in Sargans .

Is this missing because it once existed and was removed ?

Or did it never exist but the number was reserved in case a further track should be needed ?

New RhB measuring vehicle

Toma Bacic

Hello all!

On June 7/8, 2021 RhB presented to the media new digital diagnostic system for track measurement.
In the press release (https://www.rhb.ch/de/medien/medienmitteilungen/details/die-rhb-digitalisiert-ihre-gleismessung), there is an info about the development of the system: "Das erste Diagnosefahrzeug aus dem Jahr 2017 basierte auf einem Standardfahrzeug". On which "Standardfahrzeug"?
Also, what means "Die neuste Entwicklung ist ein autonomes Fahrzeug, bei welchem die Mess-Sensorik über eine Fernsteuerung bedient wird"? From where is possible to monitor the equipment? From the locomotive, or from the infrastructure centre in Landquart?

Thank you!

regards
toma

Maybe you have lost a digit or a comma somewhere?
SER 5/2021 says the total price for 60 units is CHF 1.3bn

1.3bn / 60 = 21.66m for a six-car unit

(My guess would be 7m for a motor coach and 2m for a coach)

Serbia ordered 3 units for EUR 62.2m, that's EUR 20.733m

As of today, one EUR gives 1.0835 CHF, thus
EUR 20.733m = CHF 22.465m

However, SER thinks that the market price for a double deck unit would be CHF 3m less than what Stadler gets. I wonder from where he gets such price indications.

I think it is more likely that the higher cost is due to the fact that parts must be designed for a total of 2 models rather than for a production run of 60, where the cost of the design and molds and production can be shared between 60 rather than just between 2.

Two railcars have been ordered from Stadler to replace 1 and 2 built 1973.

The contract was given direct to Stadler without a tendering process on the grounds that they are the only company capable of building them.

They will cost SFR5,283,000 each, not including tax!

The recently ordered 60 EMU for SBB work out at about SFR2,166,000 each.

I assume that the high cost of the Dolder vehicles is due to their specialist nature and there being only 2

Sounds good, Glenn.
Has it ever been used for it’s intended purpose?
➢ Hope not. Someone will have to check the rocks for dents and scratches.

Hello David,

Not sure I understand the question. Do you mean, "were there once 4 loops at Alp Grüm"?

➢ It’s a catch point, routes runaways into the wall rather than letting them run down the hill.

One of the units was sitting on the short siding at Alp Grum today at 12:40 (as viewed on the RhB livestream).
That would have been for the occasional (on a Thursday) supply train to the works based around the old turntable siding. (More common is a Tuesday one, normally a weekly delivery of materials. This week that was powered by the ex-ABe Xe 232.01.)
I noticed a train was present again today (a cement container and what were probably a couple of Rp-w with white sacks of something on pallets, but I was too busy to hang around and see what was shunting it - so thanks for telling me ! (Don't suppose you noticed any Xac lurking near the Gem somewhere, did you?)

RhB Ge6/6ii activity in May

File added to folder “RhB” with last month’s diagrammed work for RhB 7xx. Hope some members find it of interest.

After almost nil passenger work for the class in April, it was a welcome sight that the appearances bounced back, including use vice Ge4/4ii or Units as well as the diagrammed seasonal (Rheinschlucht) services.

705 is in regular use again after being sidelined since mid-Jan. 707 the only one not planned for passenger trains in May.
