Re: Metre Gauge speed record.
Australia's Queensland Railway ran a 1067mm EMU at 210 km/h. Although a deliberate attempt at a speed record it was a service yrain with passengers!

Re: DFB to use HGm 4/4 62 this season!
Thomas
Because of the high fire risk, all trains between Gletsch and Oberwald have been hauled by HGm 4/4 62 for some time now. This means between 9 and 10 journeys par day, including loco only transfers. You can therefore witness the diesel with the red Wanderexpress, red regular steam trains, the blue Oberwald steam trains and solo.

Re: Metre Gauge speed record.

Not World, but Europe for the previous record. The speed record on meter gauge in Africa at a little over 160 km/h has been held since 26.11.1976 by a (diesel) ZE 200 "Gazelle" of the RAN between Dimbokro and Bouaké. And if you add just 67mm to the meter, the South African 6E1 E1525 made 245 km/h on 31.10.1978 between Westonaria and Midway.

As the article says, a world record for Europe - I'm less sure about worldwide. For years trains on the metre-gauge mainlines in Tunisia have run 130-140km/h in regular service, so it would not surprise me if they had topped 160 too, such as with those lightweight DMUs they now have.

I believed a false claim that "the newest Capricorn unit was used" This would have been 3142 but obviously not the case

Metre Gauge speed record.
Not widely publicised (I only read of it today for instance) is that the RhB have broken the world record speed for metre gauge that they already held. Previously 145 km/h with unit 3502 on 09.07.2022 unit 3143 reached 163 km/h (101.3 mph) in the Vereina tunnel

Re: MOB

Yes, this is correct. Almost every metre gauge network in Switzerland has a short bit of dual gauge to unload vehicles. On the MOB/MVR/TPF network this is now (apart from Vevey) only Zweisimmen and Bulle. Some networks have specific unloading ramps where the transporter wagons can directly unload. Examples are Landquart, Visp (Bockbart), Gossau, Ins (picture).regarding Vevey turntable: the first lead is standard gauge; the second is four rail dual gauge. That track appears to be four rail for some distance before changing to meter gauge only. What is the purpose/reason? Is is possible meter gauge equipment is brought in on standard gauge rolling stock, put on the turntable, switched to four rail track, then lowered to meter gauge track? |

There had not been a possibility to turn vehicles on the MOB itself until recently. The turntable in Montbovon was built in 2018. Before, the driving trailers were brought to Vevey over the MVR (which is managed by MOB).I should have been more specific: the MOB line Montreux-Zweisimmen. Markus |

I should have been more specific: the MOB line Montreux-Zweisimmen.
Ast 151 and 152 now point towards Zweisimmen. Originally one car pointed towards Montreux and one towards Zweisimmen (they bookended the consist), so one car had to be turned end-for-end. The only way I see that possible is the turntable at Montbovon, unless there is something I don’t see. In HOm, I can employ the 0-5-0 switcher…. Nice picture of Vevey. I will definitely check that out on my next visit. With the turntable serving both gauges and cut into the rock face, that scene just begs to be modeled. David |

Re: Basel transport plans
George Raymond
Long-term plans for revamp of Basel-area transport, including a new Basel-Mitte underground station, and airport rail link https://www.bahnknotenbasel.ch/Thanks for this link. Discussion of these plans has been going on for years. Every so often I'll see an article about a new proposed variant for Basel's cross-city tunnel (Herzstück). Is there any sign of a decision to implement it? The long discussion of the Herzstück seems to show a lack of consensus that it's needed. In contrast, in the early 2000s the consensus on Zürich's cross-city tunnel (Durchmesserlinie) was strong and the decision to build it came quickly.
