I have been challenged while taking photos at Zurich HB and I know of one professional video (REOS) where a similar incident occurred. Once I explained that it was for personal use, they let me continue to shoot.
I did have one incident at Arth-Goldau around dusk (2004) when my flash went off. I had assumed based on my setup that there was enough light to shoot in AUTO without the flash going off. The driver was not amused at having been flashed while entering the station area. I did not get the chance to apologize, but I am much more careful since then.
I have never gotten the finger.

If you know who the train was operating for, that would be the place to start.

Reichenau-Tamins to Ilanz is currently closed due to a derailment.

An unconfirmed report says the train concerned is the Erlebniszug with 602

No further information at present.


Issues with railway photography in CH?

On April 23, 2020 I photographed the mid-day Rekingen AG - RBL freight train headed by Re 4/4 I 10016 at Siggenthal-Würenlingen AG. The loco is owned by "Verein Erhalt historische Elektrolokomotive Ae 6/6" (CH-VEHE) in Steinen SZ. As the train slowly entered the station and came to a halt, the loco driver aggressively shouted something unintelegible to me. After it crossed a Regio, I photographed it again leaving the station, and when it passed me the driver showed me his middle finger. On both occasions I was standing on public grounds.

This is the first time in 37 years of photographing Swiss railways that someone has had an objection to it. I was wondering if there was a particular issue with that operator or train? I wish I had been able to take a photo of the driver as proof so that I could send it to the society's address to ask directly.

SBB ex SNCF D

In three batches 1990-2000 SBB bought 41 D 51 87 92-70 from SNCF to work in pushpull trains with EWIV coaches. (Another 7 went to BLS 1990/1991 including one for parts; these were withdrawn in December 2004)

The SBB vehicles were gradually withdrawn until there were only three left this year. 339 recently disappeared from the vehicle register and last Friday 310 and 311 turned up at Kaiseraugst meaning the type is now extinct.

Sorry that should be Walchwil (one L) I also forgot the Eppenberg tunnel between Aarau and Olten which will open 13.12 and mean there will be four tracks all the way from Rupperswil to Olten.

September 4th is the official Ceneri opening, timetable traffic is due to start December 13th

Zug to Arth Goldau is due to re-open on the same date. The new double track section starts at Walchwill station 9+452 and goes to about 11+150 (Zero is Zug station and Arth Goldau is 15+758)

The new Bözberg tunnel is also expected to open 13.12

Also due to open in the next few months:

26.09.2020 deviation through new Boll station on Bern-Worb line (RBS)

October ? LEB new tunnel section at Chauderon in Lausanne

13.12.2020 TPG Geneva tram extension Bernex to Vaiily

I don't think the extensions to the Ceneri and Zimmerberg tunnels have got beyond the proposal stage though with Zimmerberg the Junction layout at the Thalwil end was built with the tunnel so that any new construction can easily be joined to it.

Hello all!
As the opening of the Ceneri base tunnel is scheduled for September 4, I am interested what infrastructure projects will follow on the north-south corridor.
According to what I learned, the southern extension of Ceneri is planned, but what is the status of that project now? Also, when the opening of the new Bözbergtunnel is planned? Also, what is the status of the southern extension of the Zimmerberg Base Tunnel?
Finally, when the second track between the Zug and Arth-Goldau (the complete section will be doubled or just some parts) will be opened?

RhB intend that all will be withdrawn by this time next year, with one preserved by the company. The Neue Zürcher Zeitung published a report on the RhB today including their reported travelling on 705 on a freight:

Abgestellt can mean out of service due to a defect etc but can also mean stabled as in waiting for next working.

If 701 was long term out of service then "Remisiert" or "Ausser Betrieb" is more likely to be used. If it was not going to run again then "Zur Ausrangierung freigegeben" -authorised for withdrawal- might appear.
