BLS Units Query

Don

Have been editing and uploading a few images taken on BLS lines and came across the splendid looking RBDe 566 EMUs:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/lickeybanker/8462201613/in/photostream

http://www.flickr.com/photos/lickeybanker/8461709119/in/photostream/

I assume they still operate on the Thun-Solothurn RE services but can anyone advise of if that is the case and also where else is it a good bet to see these old units in day to day service? Plus, are they still in the red livery as I doubt BLS would have plans to refurbish them?

Thanks in anticipation.

Don

According to the BLS they are still in service, but will be withdrawn this year:

In recent years they have been (AFAIK) working only the old EBT route - which is of course what they were built for.

You can see what became my Burgdorf - THun train in the background of this photo:

From Eisenbahn Amateur 2/2013:

"There are currently five diagrams for these units-

all 60xx Regional Trains Hasle/R-Thun

Monday to- Friday only RE diagram Thun-Solothurn begining with 3419, 0639 ex Thun

Some trains in the 59xx series between Solothurn and Burgdorf"

I'm afraid they will go to the scrapyard in red. On a date not too far from today...

Until enough MUTZes will be delivered, they can be found between Thun and Solothurn. Nowhere else.

There are 8 motor coaches, 8 driving trailes and 10 coaches (one coach and one driving trailer are out of use or scrapped). The two "surplus" coaches have been painted in silvergreenblue and work in NPZ consists. They alo got the new TSI numbers
50 85 29-35 502-8
50 85 29-35 503-6

Many thanks for the detail, I make the Solothurn-Thun workings:
3419 ex-TH - 3424 - 3431 - 3436 - 3443 - 3448 - 3455 - 3460 - 3467 but that ends at SO (19:57) each day as there is no 20:01 return. So, maybe there is a change of diagram for the next working day?

The unit probably works 0436 Solothurn-Burgdorf (5914) and 0517 Burgdorf-Thun (6008) the next morning then 3419 but Eisenbahn Amateur did not mention this and I don't have the full diagram

Many thanks, of course that ties in with the M-F operation of the RE diagram nicely. My visit is planned for April, so I hope it is still operational at that time. Your help is much appreciated.

Brilliant, I have all I need for a mission to grab a few more images when next in the area.
Many thanks. Don
