RhB Ge 6/6 II (701 Class)

RhB intend that all will be withdrawn by this time next year, with one preserved by the company. The Neue Zürcher Zeitung published a report on the RhB today including their reported travelling on 705 on a freight:

Bahnforum Schweiz suggests 701 will be used as a parts source.

Meanwhile 705 worked 1358 16:47 St Moritz-Landquart yesterday

702 worked 902 (08:52 Zermatt to St Moritz) between Disentis and Chur today

Correction: 705 has been stored serviceable and may return to service if a shortage of locos develops later in the year

701 was scrapped today, 10.02.2021

TV news report from 12.02 on the scrapping of 701. It is largely in Rumantsch. It starts at 3:46 and does not work on IE

703 is still at work.

But the demise of the first Ge 6/6 II brings back MUs of Ge 4/4 I !

But I also like this:

Notable in respect of the comment and photo below about pairing of 610/605, is that this combination was booked to work 4367 20:02 Kloster-Samedan last Tues, Feb 9th. They have been diagrammed together daily as replacement power for a Ge 6/6 duty on Fri 5th, Mon-Fri 8th-12th.

702/703/707 are the only ones still actively diagrammed, with 705/706 out of service and 704 showing as on repair, now since Jan 18th, ominously.

Also notable that both 605 and 610 are 12 years older than all but two of the Ge6/6II ! The pairing of the two GE4/4 I represents a combined age of 134 years!

This must be a British addition based on imperial measurements :-)

In Switzerland, 68 + 68 = 136

605 was put in service on 12.03.1953, 610 on 03.07.1953
The photo was taken on 12.02.2021

2021 - 1953 = 68

If you prefer counting the days: 24809 + 24696 = 49505

704 is allegedly the one RhB intend to keep as a museum loco

... and Saturday it is diagrammed back on repair.

Hopefully just rectification of faults noted on its test run.
