The company isn't MGB but MGI. MGI is owned by Confederation and cantons and is owner of the whole infrastructure.

MGB is a railway undertaking only owning rolling stock. The shares of MGB are largely in private possession but Confederation and cantons own a minority. Private shareholders are partly organized in BVZ Holding which is also owner of GGB.

BVZ Holding and Confederation/cantons hold 50% each of Matterhorn Gotthard Management AG, which manages all companies mentioned.

Not a simple structure but perfectly working.
