Water flood in LBT

Guerbetaler

Lötschberg Base Tunnel has been flooded with water pouring from the tunnel top Thursday. For some time the LBT had to be closed completely. At the moment, at least an hourly IC can use the not directly affected second bore. But capacity will be reduced for about a week.

Unfortunately the old Lötschberg tunnel is currently undergoing a refurbishment. This also results in a reduced capacity. Travelling to Visp and Brig will be difficult.

Saturday is the beginning of the ski holidays for many places in Switzerland, which normally results in peak traffic to Visp/Brig and Landquart/Chur...

To be continued.

Works are interrupted at the moment (to allow to cope with car shuttle February peak traffic), so at least this capacity is available!

It seems that as many trains as possible are routed through LBT but they are delayed about 10 min due to reduced speed.

I presume that some (charter and special train) traffic can be rerouted via Lausanne and the Rhone valley.

Lausanne has reduced capacity due to works. They would rather try to reroute some freights via Gotthard.
